Founded on March 11, 1997, “The Gorman Foundation” was formed to be a legacy vehicle for giving back to the community. James W. (Jim) Gorman, Jr. and Rowena C. (Tena) Gorman were motivated to create the foundation to provide a lasting way into the future and beyond to support charitable organizations doing work in science, research, medicine, education and the arts. Both were strong in their Christian faith and the Foundation supports a number of religious initiatives and programs. The Gorman Foundation is headquartered in San Antonio, Texas.

Jim Gorman
Born in Wichita Falls, Texas, Jim had a BS in Geology from the University of Oklahoma. He married his college sweetheart, Tena, in 1952. He was a Korean War veteran serving as a Lieutenant in the Air Force. After the war, he worked as a geologist in the Gorman Drilling Company run by his father, James W. (Wardie) Gorman. In 1963, Jim took up a new career as a stock broker, eventually becoming a successful investor and venture capitalist. Forming Gorman Enterprises, he pursued business interests in banking, farming and ranching, oil and gas and real estate. With equal zeal and enthusiasm, he involved himself in countless philanthropic and community interests. Jim had that rare gift of being able to walk into a room and make everyone feel super special and the center of attention. He passed away in 2020 at the age of 91.
Tena Gorman
Born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Tena had a BA in English from the University of Oklahoma. She married Jim in 1952 after graduation in May. Inspired by her father, William M. (Bill) Cain, founder of Cain’s Coffee Company, she became very actively involved in the community, reflecting her dad’s dedication to service and philanthropy. In addition to being a devoted home mother to her family, she was an accomplished businesswoman, serving as a board member, director, president or fundraiser for a number of different civic and community organizations. Tena was always recognized for her easy-going manner, her genuine and unassuming personality combined with her signature social grace. Those who met her were instantly captivated by her personal attention, warmth and charm. She was the epitome of a truly classy lady. She passed away in 2021 at the age of 90.
